Essays & Research
The book is the beginning of a larger project: to rebuild strategy as a discipline capable of handling complexity, uncertainty, cognition, cooperation, value, and consequence.
Clayton's scholarly research and popular essays examine the deep structures beneath strategy: how firms cohere, how institutions think, how societies coordinate, how value is created, how uncertainty is priced, and how intelligence becomes action.
His academic work builds the architecture: strategic organisms, QCEA, entropic valuation, causal simulation, coalition formation, and the epistemology of risk. His popular essays carry that architecture into public language: historically textured, literary, exacting, and written for serious readers who want complexity made coherent rather than conveniently simplified.

Research Profiles
Clayton's papers, preprints, and public essays are available through the following platforms.
Programme
A research programme, not a miscellany
Clayton's research is organised around a single ambition: to give strategy a firmer scientific and philosophical foundation.
The work asks whether strategy can be defined not as a managerial activity, but as a universal adaptive process: the preservation and cultivation of coherence under uncertainty, entropy, incomplete information, and scarce resources.
From that question flow several connected lines of inquiry: the formal definition of the strategic organism, the 18 laws of strategy, the QCEA paradigm, simulation-native valuation, entropic risk pricing, causal business modelling, cooperation, coalition formation, and the knowledge technologies through which firms, institutions, and civilisations think.

Public Writing
Popular Essays for Serious Readers
Clayton's popular essays begin, almost without exception, by hand: with a dipping pen, ink, and paper.
This is not nostalgia, but discipline. The hand slows the thought. The page resists the premature sentence. The instrument restores friction to a world too eager to confuse speed with intelligence.
From that deliberate method emerges a body of writing for readers who do not want strategy made easy, but made clearer: executives carrying real consequence, founders navigating uncertainty, scholars dissatisfied with disciplinary confinement, and self-educated strategists who have outgrown the usual procession of frameworks and slogans.
The style is deliberately literary. It draws on history, image, metaphor, and philosophical argument to make complexity legible without domesticating it.
What emerges is public theory written as serious prose: exacting, historically textured, philosophically alive, and intended for readers who want complexity made coherent rather than conveniently simplified.
